LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A recent survey ranks Las Vegas in the Top 10 cities to get a fresh start.

Comedian Chris Waldeck, along with many others, is new to Las Vegas and moved into town from Florida about a year ago.

"I moved to find more opportunities,” Waldeck said. “I worked in Montana, Virginia, Ohio, Washington state and Texas."

But Las Vegas is where he decided to start new - focusing on his comedy career and making it his home base.

“It's been cool for I think I have six roommates now,” he said.

And Livability.com said Waldeck picked just the right place at the right time to do it.

In its survey compiling the top cities in the U.S. to get a fresh start, it pointed to life beyond the Strip - with things like tight-knit neighborhoods, a range of outdoor activities, and a great food scene.

But it doesn't end there, as median home prices in Las Vegas are below $300,000 along with plenty of service jobs and numerous construction projects underway.

“Vegas is on track to be one of the fastest growing cities, and there's just a lot of entertainment coming here a lot of new things happening,” Waldeck said.

Cleveland, Bend, Oregon and Iowa City were also on the list with Las Vegas ranked at No. 8.
