The Henderson Historical Society has set out on a virtual summer road trip challenge to share many of the city’s historical highlights.

Every Monday, the society’s Facebook page features a detail shot of the Henderson specialty license plate in a notable Henderson historic site.

Page followers are invited to guess where the photo was taken and share the post to challenge their friends. On Thursdays, a more revealing shot of the destination is unveiled along with a brief history behind the location.

Typically, the society offers several live events a year featuring experts on local history sharing their knowledge. But with COVID-19 restrictions, those lectures and panel discussions have been postponed indefinitely. The virtual road trip provided a way to fill in the gap until live events can be offered again.

Henderson Historical Society board members Valerie La Porta-Haynes and Lynn Starr led the way on the road trip, helping to identify the best sites while sharing stories about growing up in Henderson.

So far, the Henderson plate has visited four sites, and plenty of local geography geniuses guess its location each week with only the most basic image hints. Plenty of hints remain to take the campaign beyond summer with clues set to post through October.
