The city of Henderson is holding an event to show off its status as a "smart city."

City officials say they're working on nearly 30 projects over the next couple years that could make the city greener, smarter, and safer.

One of the projects already in place is a GPS tracking system that connects and syncs the city's streetlights with firetrucks. This has the potential to cut down on emergency response times.

"Anything we can do to help them get there faster," said city of Henderson Chief Information Officer Laura Fucci.

City officials say they pushed hard and will continue pushing hard to get these projects done. By many metrics, Henderson is considered one of the fastest growing communities in the country.

Today's ceremony is at 11 a.m. at Henderson city hall.
