LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Romance is not dead, it’s just different. With more people looking at online dating as an option for finding love during the pandemic, it's no wonder dating apps and profiles are on the rise.

Matchmakers say online dating can be a great way to find the love of your life.

“When you go out and meet someone at a bar, you really don't know who they are," said True Love Knots Founder Maria Romano.

Romano, a love and dating coach, says online dating can help two strangers form a real connection before they even meet in person.

"Spend some time talking to them, video-chatting," she suggested. "Then maybe move to spend some time on the phone, and then if you feel comfortable find a location where you’re comfortable to meet in these circumstances."

Romano says it's important to share information about yourself and what you like in your profile. It helps others get to know you better, but also it helps specify what type of connection you’re looking for.

“A first impression does make a difference," she said.

"It’s no different than if you're filling out a resume," she said. "Your first impression is your highlight of yourself."

"And when it comes to pictures, that is the first thing that people see. We're visual," said Romano. "So you need good pictures. ...I’ve never seen a good selfie, so you can even ask someone to help you with it."

Romano also says to be on the lookout for possible red flags. Safety is something to have in the back of your mind.

“If they only want to text and they don't want you to take it from what I call 'online to offline,' maybe even a phone call, that’s where your red flags start to come in," she said.

"That’s what you need to be cautious about because they can ask you for money or tell you a sob story."

It is also important, Romano says, to be honest with yourself and with your potential love interest.

When it comes time to date, you can start with a virtual date or meeting in person, taking COVID-19 precautions.

Or you can go online and tour a country together just in the comfort of your home, using Zoom or do a virtual scavenger hunt. There are plenty of creative apps to help!

Last but not least, Romano says to be patient. Just like in-person dating, it may not click on your first try, so you have to put in the time for it.

And have fun! You'll meet lots of people, and hopefully a love to remember.
