The city of Las Vegas and EnGoPLANET, a New York City-based clean tech start-up, announced that they successfully installed the world's first Smart Street Lights powered by pedestrians' footsteps.

EnGoPLANET’s Smart Street Light is an off-the-grid solution, powered by combining kinetic and solar energy.

Kinetic energy is harvested from pedestrians’ footsteps via kinetic energy pads. When someone steps on a kinetic tile, energy is created and goes directly to a battery.

The lights were installed in Boulder Plaza in the Arts District.
