Pahrump is gearing up for harvest season with the town's winery at the center in the series of fall festivals.

The Pahrump Valley Winery is the largest producing winery in Nevada. With the harvest season approaching, a crew of about 10 people will hand-pick nearly 9,000 pounds of grapes in Pahrump.

"You harvest once a year. So you have put a year's worth of labor of love into those vines," Gretchen Loken said. "When you go out to harvest, you get to see the result of that harvest and that's what makes it fun."

Loken and her husband have owned the winery since 2004.

Wine enthusiast Monica Carlson says their leadership has turned Pahrump Valley Winery into a world-renowned name.

"We have friends in London. When we told them we were moving to Pahrump, they knew where Pahrump was," Carlson said. "They knew and they had heard of this winery."

The Pahrump Tourism Committee is pushing a new effort to bring more travelers to Pahrump with the winery being a prime attraction. There is a grape stomp and wine tasting, along with the area's scenery.
