LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Many of you may have a favorite book that reminds you of your childhood.

That one book you just read over and over again.

Spread the Word Nevada's Books & Buddies program helps at-risk children improve their literacy skills.

Community volunteers go into area schools every week and read with students.

The children walk away with more confidence.

But for many kids in Nevada, they find reading to be difficult and frustrating.

Trying to motivate them to pick up a book can be quite a challenge.

That’s where fellow classmates can help.

Educators say when you give children books to read the sky is the limit for their future.

This program is made possible by generous donations from the community, including events like the upcoming Storybook Gala on Feb. 29.

Nevada reading week is March 2 to 6, and many of us from 13 action news will be going throughout the community to read to kids.
