The Vegas-based Reil Family of five is making enough money to live on from submitting designs through Merch by Amazon, the service that allows designers of all sizes to get royalties on merchandise featuring their designs.

Dad, mom and all three kids have their own accounts and are submitting designs.

Ken Reil owns and runs a small design firm.

In 2015 he heard about Merch by Amazon and with little expectation, he uploaded a few of his designs. Within a few months, he saw some traction and it took off from there. He has one design that has generated over $25k in royalties to date. That’s why he convinced his wife and each of his three kids to sign up too in hopes that the experience will teach them about entrepreneurship.

Brooke (18), Brett (17) and Jake (13) now each have a Merch account and are making money. Brooke is using royalties to pay for college at BYU. Brett’s friends can’t believe that a high schooler is making money this way.

Ken is planning to sell his design business to focus on Merch fulltime.
