According to a new survey, 69 percent of Americans would give up exchanging gifts during the holidays if everyone else would agree to it.
The survey was conducted online by Harris Poll on behalf of SunTrust banks.
A majority of the people who participated in the poll said they would spend more time with friends and family if they did not have to worry about gifts.
- 43 percent of those who spend money say they feel pressured to spend more than they can afford
- 25 percent said if they didn't have to buy figts, they would spend it on activities with family and friends instead
- 37 percent said they would use the money to pay down debt
- 47 percent said they would invest the money normally spent on gifts
