A 19-year-old man no longer has to walk to school thanks to the South Dakota Highway patrol.

The young man was walking about 8 miles each day, which took about 3 hours.

Someone saw him walking along an interstate and called the police because they were concerned.

Instead of giving him a ticket, the state trooper helped the teenager get a brand-new bike instead from a local sport goods store.

Tanner Romerein says much of his family is in prison and his views of law enforcement have been mostly negative until this point.

Sgt. Swenson says this isn't a one and done deal. He plans on staying in touch with Romerein.
