Gilbert Baker, who designed the Rainbow Flag, passed away inside his Harlem apartment on Thursday.
- He was approached in 1978 by Harvey Milk to create something that would symbolize the LGBT community.
- Milk paid $1,000 for Baker's work.
- A Rainbow Flag will fly at half-staff from the San Francisco Mayor's balcony in memory of Baker.
