Alabama students must pass civics test to graduate

A new law in Alabama requires students to take a civic test beginning with the 2018-19 school year in order to graduate.

Topics on the 100 question test include American history and structure of the government. Students must get 60 questions right to pass.

Two of the 100 questions are: "Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?" and "Can you name three of the original colonies?"

Not everyone was in favor of the law. Critics claimed it was a waste of time since Alabama high school students already have to pass a course on government.
