Cell phone video captured firefighters rescuing a woman who was trapped by a fire at Ashton Park Apartments near Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway.

Fire crews were called to the scene around 1:52 a.m. Wednesday. An apartment on the first floor of a two-story building was engulfed in flames. As crews battled the fire on the first floor, firefighters also put up a ladder to rescue a woman trapped on the second floor.

"An elderly woman was stuck upstairs while the ball of fire was going on downstairs," says one witness, Whiken Hern. "There was no way she could get out."

The fire was out by 2:07 a.m., but not before causing serious damage to the first floor apartment. The smoke and heat affected three other units.

Eight people were displaced by the fire.

Damage was estimated at $100,000. The cause is under investigation.
