A woman attempted to withdraw her guilty plea in the 2012 killing of a child and stabbing of a coworker.

The family of 10-year-old Jade Morris had expected Brenda Stokes Wilson to be sentenced Monday. Stokes Wilson is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend's 10-year-old daughter in 2012.

"She's prolonging something that there is no reason to prolong for," said Jade's father Phillip. "You can't fight the inevitable what she did was horrific and nobody in their right mind would think ... that a baby should be done that way."

Stokes Wilson had initially filed the motion to withdraw her plea back in January.

A status hearing will be held March 14 while the motion is expected to be addressed March 28. Stokes Wilson will also need a new attorney, which a hearing was set for March 22.

She was also accused of slashing the face of a former co-worker, Joyce Rhone, at a casino on the Las Vegas Strip because she believe the woman was dating the child's father.

Stokes Wilson was charged with first-degree kidnapping, murder, burglary, attempted murder, battery resulting in substantial bodily harm and mayhem. She was originally scheduled to go to trial in 2015, but it was moved to February of this year to give her lawyer time to prepare.

She pleaded guilty in January to the charges and had been expected to face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
