LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A press conference was held on Friday calling on the Las Vegas community to support families affected by COVID-related evictions and housing instability.

Community advocacy groups and individuals including representatives from the Arriba Las Vegas Workers Center and the Las Vegas Democratic Socialists of America held the press conference.

The group called on those that can to help local families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic facing evictions and through housing instability.

According to local advocacy groups, rising housing costs, COVID-related job and wage loss, and changing eviction laws have contributed to the humanitarian crisis happening on the Las Vegas streets.

The City of Las Vegas's 2019 "Homeless Ban" was yet another devastating blow to the issue, criminalizing houseless individuals for having nowhere to go, say advocates.
