WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 29 key measures of quality and safety. The data set ranges from pupil-teacher ratio to dropout rate to median standardized-test scores.

States with the best school systems are:

1. Massachusetts
2. New Jersey
3. Connecticut
4. Virginia
5. Vermont

States with the worst school systems are:

42. Alaska
43. Nevada
44. Oregon
45. District of Columbia
46. Alabama

Good news is Nevada is on the come-up with a spike in entrepreneurism and industry.
