The upgraded Viva Vision canopy will illuminate the pedestrian mall with 16,433,152 pixels and 5,000 Nits, making it seven-times brighter than the existing canopy with four-times the resolution.
Manufacturing of the LED modules is currently underway and construction is set to begin in May with an expected completion date on Dec. 31.
Business owners in the area see nearly 20 million people visit each year. Chrissie Richins, of American Coney Island says, "A lot of people do come down to watch the canopy over at night, in fact i bring my family down here just to see the huge TV."
The new canopy promises brighter, better quality LEDs and an interactive feature.
Richins says, "I think it will actually bring more business to downtown."
Kiosk vendor, Corvette Hammonds says, "A couple of hundred more people then that's a couple of more sales."
Come New Year's Eve, you will be able to send a message from your phone that will appear on the canopy and you get to weigh in on what song plays next, enhancing the visitor experience downtown
Michael Hollander who sells tour packages says, "It's really helping us as far as people looking to go to the Grand Canyon, people looking to go to the jockey club."
Dimensions of the Viva Vision canopy are 1,500 feet long, 90 feet wide and 90 feet above the pedestrian mall.
The revitalized canopy will feature new digital content as well as interactive elements such as The Key, an app that will enable visitors to write personalized messages on Viva Vision and vote for the next song or video.
