LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — UMC Children's Hospital says they are seeing a shocking increase in child abuse deaths in the Las Vegas valley.

Staff at the hospital say a child is more likely to die from abuse than a car crash or cancer, which is why they are trying to bring awareness to this issue.

From 2017 to 2018 the hospital recorded a 29% percent increase. When you compare those numbers to 2016, the deaths are up 200%.

UMC says 9 kids died in their hospital last year from abuse.

If you suspect a child is being abused you can call 702-399-0081 to report it.
