TSA agents at Reno-Tahoe International Airport found a torch with plenty of fuel inside a man's carry-on bag recently.
Authorities say the passenger placed it in a pipe with caps and zip-tied it under the lining of his bag.
TSA says while it's OK to take a torch head onto a plane in either a carry-on or checked bag, the fuel is never permitted.
A passenger at the Reno–Tahoe International Airport (RNO) wanted to sneak his torch onto the plane in his carry-on bag, so he placed it in a metal pipe with end caps (similar to a pipe bomb) and zip tied it to the handle mechanism under the lining of his bag. One might say he had a “pipe dream.” Items that are intentionally concealed can lead to fines and arrest. In case you’re wondering, when it comes to any kind of torch, the torch head is permitted in both carry-on and checked bags, but the fuel/tank are never permitted.
