A valley man says it took Thursday's wind storm to get changes he's wanted for months.

The gusts knocked a tree over onto Kevin Diaz's home near Sahara Avenue and Fremont Street that had been threatening to crash since he moved in.

The tree was right outside his and his wife's bedroom. They narrowly avoided disaster.

"We felt like we were on a yacht today," Diaz said about Thursday's storm. "Open seas."

An awning saved his home, but kept creaking and he worried the tree would fall through into his trailer.

Then one of the managers of the trailer park walked up with a maintenance crew. In minutes, the tree was cleared away.

"We don't have to worry about it [anymore] when we're sleeping during windy nights," Diaz said. "It's like worrying about Godzilla stepping on your house."

Diaz called the men "tree surgeons" for the way they did the job without collapsing the awning.

He's in for an insurance battle now but he says this was about as good a resolution as he could've hoped for.
