The Nevada Department of Transportation is planning to add fencing along U.S. Highway 50 through the Stagecoach and Silver Springs corridor to keep horses off the roadway.

Director Rudy Malfabon says wild or feral horses have been involved in 350 crashes in the state between 2006 and 2015.

The Nevada Appeal reported Monday that the department has yet to decide how much fencing to add and where to place it.

Malfabon says a contract for the project will be issued this year.

Currently, there is fencing from USA Parkway toward Fernley, but Malfabon says there are still too many areas where horses can access the roadway.

He says there is an underpass available for animals to get to the other side safely.
