A recent study found that renters with children are spending almost as much on child care as rent payments.

Nationally, the median rent payment is $1,500 while the average cost of child care is $1,385 a month, according to HotPads. In Las Vegas, the average cost of child care — $1,365 — is only $30 lower than the median rent payment of $1,395.

But there are other major cities where child care costs exceed rental costs, including Pittsburgh where renters can expect to pay $255 more each month for child care.

Meanwhile, in cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, rent still far exceeds child care costs — by $1,500 in San Francisco.

According to the study, more than a 1/3 of renters have kids at home.
