The solar energy debate is a hot one.

The issue wasn't up for formal discussion on Wednesday during a meeting of the public utilities commission, but that didn't stop solar energy advocates from showing up to speak during the public comment period.

Solar City, along with representatives from other solar companies, presented thousands of signed cards from supporters, urging commissioners not to change the net metering rate.

Net metering allows people who generate solar energy to be reimbursed by NV Energy for the power they don't use.

Right now, the net metering rate could go down.

Commissioners will meet again on Dec. 22 and are expected to make a final decision at that time.
