A security officer was stabbed during an altercation with an individual near Charleston Boulevard and U.S. 95 around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say that two security officers were asking trespassers to leave the property around the Sunrise Vista Executive Suites on Shiloah Drive when they saw a man across the street.

The man became scared and tried to run away.

The security officers caught up with the man and the situation escalated.

One of the security officers hit the man with a baton and the man stabbed the security officer in the hand and shoulder.

Police were able to catch up with the man not too far away. He claimed self-defense.

The severity of the officers's injuries is unknown.
