HENDERSON (KTNV) — Some Henderson residents say they have been having a lot of sleepless nights because of construction crews working near their homes.
A 13 Action News viewer sent in video of construction work taken from the window in her apartment near Water Street and Ocean Avenue in Henderson. She says the noise is keeping her, her children and her neighbors up at all hours of the night and into the early morning.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Henderson, the workers are doing water line replacement at the intersection near the Henderson water treatment plant. They start working late evenings and continue into the early morning hours.
But in the middle of the day there is no work. Just relative peace and quiet on a busy street which isn't setting well with a lot of people.
"It shakes our building. The whole apartment!" said Tammy Pierce.
"Our kids aren't sleeping. We're not sleeping,” said a next-door neighbor who didn’t want to give her name. “It's just ridiculous because this has been going on since January.”
The city spokesperson said workers can adjust their schedule to do the noisiest work earlier in the evening and that the city has not received any complaints so far.
"It's really tough. It's tough sleeping,” said Shirley Mattox. “We've been having to sleep with our TV on. Get earplugs. Have a fan going. Just whatever we can to drown out the noise."
It’s not that they don't welcome the improvements. They just want no more noisy nights.
"It's a pain in the butt. It really is.” Pierce said. “I know we need to finish it. But finish it. Finish and make it more convenient for everyone who is living here."
