U.S. Representative Ruben J. Kihuen (D-NV) issued the statement following Wednesday’s shooting during the Republican Congressional baseball practice in Virginia.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Steve Scalise, my Republican colleagues, and all those harmed by today's terrifying shooting during the Congressional baseball practice in Virginia. Every day, Capitol Police work to protect Members, staff and those around the Capitol compounds from potential threats. Their continuous bravery and dedication to keeping us safe, especially in this situation does not go unnoticed. I pray for a speedy recovery for all those affected by this tragedy.”

Kihuen was practicing with his teammates on a nearby field at the time of the shooting. He represents the 4th Congressional District in Nevada.

"We were practicing, and coach called us in and shared the bad news with us, and we decided to do a prayer and that's when I took a picture of that very powerful moment when all Democrats came together to pray for our Republican collegues," Kihuen told 13 Action News Wednesday over Facetime.

He said Capitol Police immediately responded to their dugout.

"Immediately as soon as we got a hold of what had happened in Virginia, Capitol Police came and surrounded our area and kept us in the dugout until everything was cleared. We are very grateful for Capitol Police for their quick instincts and protecting us."

Kihuen said the game will go on as planned. They will play not only for charity but those who helped save lives.
