Shavon Carrillo, 33, who also goes by the name Aguilar, was indicted Wednesday on various charges including murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Clark County District Attorney's Office. Carrillo is accused of shooting her 11-year-old son in the head in May of 2014.

Police said it happened at her sister's apartment on Pebble Beach Boulevard, near Vegas and Decatur.

Action News contacted the District Attorney's Office to find out why there was a seven-month delay in the murder indictment.

Prosecutors said they were unable to discuss the case since the victim, Israel Carrillo, was a child.

According to the arrest report, the defendant had recently split up with her husband of 12 years at the time of the shooting.

Carrillo reportedly told investigators she had previously attempted suicide and was under the influence of methamphetamine.

She's accused of shooting her son in the head as he slept.

When detectives interviewed Carrillo, she told them she wanted to kill herself and her kids so that they could be in what she called "a better place."

Carrillo declined our request for a jailhouse interview.

She has also been indicted on child abuse, neglect or endangerment with substantial bodily harm, along with child abuse, neglect, or endangerment.

Investigators said her two daughters were also in the room that day.
