LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Elected leaders and other officials in Nevada react to Joe Biden becoming the president-elect of the United States.

Gov. Steve Sisolak:
“First and foremost, I want to congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic win in this election. As Governor, I look forward to working closely with their administration to help Nevada – the State hit hardest by both COVID-19 and climate change.

I also want to thank our hardworking poll workers and elections officials who are making sure that every vote is counted. Nevada has some of the top election officials in the country and I trust their ability to count every ballot.”

Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV):
"Joe Biden's resounding win is a victory for science, compassion, and democracy itself,” said Congresswoman Titus. “Congratulations to Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris and the generations of women and people of color in public service who helped make it possible.

"The last several days have provided even more evidence that our country cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump's recklessness and lies. We will soon have a president who cares more about our country than he does about himself, who listens to medical experts instead of fighting with them, and who will seek to expand access to affordable health care rather than restrict it.

“This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work of passionate staff and volunteers in Nevada and across the nation who dedicated their lives to bettering our country in the face of unimaginable obstacles. I am especially proud to have helped put Joe Biden in a position to become the next president of the United States. It has been four long years since Southern Nevadans have had a true partner in the White House and I look forward to working directly with Joe Biden to help our community.

"While we still must count all the votes in Nevada and across the country, it is clear that the American people are ready to restore the soul of this nation."

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II:
“This election has been incredibly unique in a number of ways, but what will never leave me is the passion and dedication I witnessed among Nevadans to create change in their communities. Because of Nevada Democrats’ commitment to expanding access to the ballot box, every eligible voter had the opportunity to make their voice heard and the historic turnout we witnessed is a direct result of Assembly Bill 4. Make no mistake, we will continue the work to ensure every vote is counted.

“Nevada proved again we are a critical state--we are a state of diverse voices, union families, and caring neighbors. It’s no surprise we helped make history in electing the first Black woman Vice President. I couldn’t be more proud of our talented team who left everything on the field to elect Joe, Kamala and Democrats up and down the ballot. We put in the work for families across the state who deserve a better future and because of that work, we now have the allies we need in the White House to help our economy recover and build back better.”

State Director of NextGen Nevada Mark Riffenburg:
“After four long years of an administration that attacks our democracy, and our decency, while turning back the clock on all the issues we care about, a groundswell of young Nevadans have mobilized, voted, defeated Donald Trump, and made it clear that they stand with President-Elect Joe Biden. The burgeoning number of early and absentee voters, the higher rate of voters ages 18-35, and the climb in first-time voters make today’s takeaway especially clear: Nevadans chose Joe Biden. We chose him to fight for us, to protect us, and to help guide our country back to a nation of decency and empathetic leadership.”

Executive Director of Battle Born Progress Annette Magnus:
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ projected victory in the electoral college signals a welcome end to the national nightmare that has been the Donald Trump administration. Even as votes are still being counted, today is a day four years in the making, as we, and the organizations comprising the America Votes table worked tirelessly in response to the 2016 election to educate and mobilize voters to support progressive candidates up and down the ballot through both 2018 and 2020. We congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their successful campaign. We know their work is cut out for them undoing the damage of the Trump administration, but we have confidence that Biden’s experience and determination put him in a fine position to meet this challenge. In addition, we look forward to Harris taking up the mantle as the nation’s first woman, first Black woman, and first Asian American woman to be Vice President. Her leadership will certainly be an asset to getting this country back on the right track in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and repairing our economy.”

“While news networks have made the call in other states, including Nevada, we still encourage our state and every state to keep up the good work of counting each and every vote. We must ensure the results accurately reflect the will of the people, not just for president, but for every down-ballot race as well. While the Adam Laxalts of the world conspire hair-brained legal schemes in an attempt to throw out legal votes, election officials across the country should not be deterred neither by their threats, nor by today’s race projection announcement. Clark County Registrar Joe Gloria continues to do phenomenal work protecting our democratic process here in Nevada and we look forward to seeing through the full counting of votes in Nevada throughout the coming days.”

Jayson Sime, senior advisor, America Votes Nevada:
“We congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their historic victory today. While in Nevada, which has been called by the Associated Press for Biden, we will STILL continue to ensure that every single vote is counted.

We take pride in the work that together with our partners across the state of Nevada, the America Votes Nevada table was able to do to be an instrumental part of Biden's victory today.

For the past four years, the organizations comprising the America Votes Nevada table worked tirelessly in response to the 2016 election to educate and mobilize voters to support progressive candidates up and down the ballot through both 2018 and 2020.

Here in Nevada, partner organizations staged a massive voter mobilization operation that we are very proud of. This grassroots effort was focused on speaking to Nevadans on the issues that matter to them; from protecting our healthcare to restoring our economy and much more. Helping voters connect the dots on how the Trump administration has done nothing to help hardworking Nevadans on these issues (plus more), was the center point of our message.

Since October 14, 2020, partners in Nevada have made over 4 million voter contact attempts, making 2,268,659 phone calls, sending one million text messages, and safely knocking on 500,000 doors. We’re proud of the work we’ve done and are ready for the long term efforts to ensure every single vote in Nevada is respected, that we have a peaceful transition of power, and get to work on getting our country to be a better place for hardworking families.”
