Democrats are making a forceful comeback to the Nevada Legislature after devastating losses in 2014 that they vowed never to repeat.

The party seized victory in two fiercely contested southern Nevada state Senate contests, which puts them over the edge to a narrow 11-10 majority.
They also won in a landslide in the Assembly and could claim either 26 or 27 seats in the 42-member chamber. One northern Nevada race favors the Democrat by a razor-thin margin; it's still too close to call.
2016's "blue wave" swept out several freshman Republican Assembly members who won Democratic-leaning districts in 2014's "red wave."
The productive, Republican-controlled Legislature of 2015 passed dozens of bipartisan education reforms and taxes to fund it.
But Democrats chafed at their lack of leverage to stop anti-union bills.
