A press conference was held at 10 a.m. Friday to discuss the disappearance of a young Las Vegas girl 20 years ago.

7-year-old Karla Rodriguez disappeared on Oct. 20, 1999. She was last seen near 6th Street and St. Louis Avenue. The little girl often wandered the streets of her neighborhood and her disappearance wasn't reported for almost 12 hours.

She was reportedly seen for the last time around 7 p.m. Oct. 20. A neighbor said that she came over to play with their son, but was told to go home because it was late.

MORE INFORMATION

Rodriguez was a student at Park Elementary School at the time. It was the principal who notified police that the girl was missing when her mother came to the school the next day, looking for her.

More than 100 volunteers searched the neighborhood multiple times during the following weekend. Las Vegas police also used bloodhounds and their mounted unit in the search.

In addition to local police, the FBI also searched for the little girl in Mexico, where she had extended family.

Dozens of suspects have also been investigated over the years.
