Police are investigating a possible theft during a house fire that occurred at 1:48 a.m. near Bruce Street and Charleston Boulevard.
When firefighters arrived, they found two palm trees on fire at 1726 Lewis Avenue, near Bruce Street. Seven people inside of the home were displaced due to the fire.
A neighbor at 1728 Lewis Avenue was briefly placed in handcuffs when police found marijuana in his home but was later released.
A resident of 1730 Lewis Avenue claim that a "good Samaritan" alerted them to the fire but used the opportunity to steal a wallet from the home. Police are investigating the situation.
There were no reported injuries caused by the fire.
