LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — People that live near Mayfair Park in Las Vegas have complained the park closes too early.

As the season moves closer to summer, some are frustrated it will only be open during the heat of the day.

Mayfair Park used to close at 11 p.m. but for months, residents told 13 Action News, Las Vegas deputy city marshals told them the park is closed at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, the sign outside of the park did not display a closing time - it only showed the park opens at 7:00 a.m.

The city said in a statement there have been public safety issues.

The city’s Department of Public Safety continues to monitor activity at this park and ensure that it is a safe place. The hours of the park will continue to be evaluated moving forward, but, as always, public safety is the city’s top priority.

People who go to the park said it's a hidden gem and question why the city is enforcing it before sunset.

"I don't think they should be stripping the residents who live here of their parks of being able to near a park," said Reese Darko.

"it's just really unfair. As people who live in this community, I don't know why we are being penalized," Zakee Ahmand.

The city also said they want it to be a safe place at all times with park hours expected to extend for summer to 8 p.m.
