On Aug. 21,  officers were responded to a call of animal cruelty near Barney Street and Charleston Park Avenue in Pahrump.

Upon arrival, a deputy spoke with an Animal Control Officer, who told the deputy that she spoke with a 17 year old who was holding a limp pit bull puppy. The Animal Control Officer believed it to be dead at the time.

The teen said he woke up and saw his new shoes had been chewed. He hit the puppy several times with the shoes, threw the shoe at the puppy and kicked it.

Later that day a necropsy revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the puppy's chest area. Juvenile Probation was called to the residence and took custody of the teen.
