UPDATE: Police say the deceased male had contacted family members and indicated there was a domestic disturbance at the residence. The male and female had been in a long term dating relationship and had two children in common.

Earlier in the day, the female had been granted a temporary protective order against the male, but the order had yet to be served. Evidence at the scene indicated the male shot the female, had a brief argument with a friend outside of the residence, then went back inside and shot himself. The children were not at the home when the incident occurred and are currently with other family members.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide near Tenaya Way and Alexander Road.

Las Vegas police say they received a call from inside the house around 5:30 p.m. Monday. By the time officers arrived both the man and woman were dead.

Detectives say friends were also contacted prior to the shooting, but couldn't make it to the home in time to help.

The couple has children, but police say they were not home at the time. They have since been placed with family members.
