Investigators are sifting through missing persons reports, after a body was found stuffed inside a duffel bag, and hidden inside a water utility vault.
The body was found near Boulder Highway and Flamingo, just outside of an extended stay complex, and there is a lot of foot traffic in the area. Some people say they walk passed the vault every day. Some recognized a foul smell, but thought it was sewage.
One family lives just across the parking lot from where the body was found. The mother says, she's worried about her five children, and wonders how this gruesome discovery will affect them.
"It makes me wonder if it's going to haunt them for life, knowing that something happened right outside from where they lived," says Tara Drake.
The coroner's office is working to identify the remains, and determine if the victim is a male or a female.
Las Vegas Valley Water District crews discovered the body, and supervisors later called 911. Officials are not giving a statement at this time.
