An ordinary guy was thrust into the spotlight Friday after getting an accidental birthday shout-out from the leader of the free world.

On Friday morning at about 7:30 a.m. Eastern, President Trump tweeted a heartfelt birthday wish to country music singer Lee Greenwood.

But he unfortunately sent it to the wrong Lee Greenwood.

"Happy birthday to the great @leegreenwood83. You and your beautiful song have made such a difference. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump tweeted.

The @leegreenwood83 account that Trump mentioned apparently belongs to a New York-based lawyer named Lee Greenwood who, ironically, appears to be a critic of the president, based on his past tweets. He had about 800 Twitter followers as of Friday morning.

The Lee Greenwood that Trump meant to mention — singer of 1984's "God Bless the USA" — turned 74 years old on Friday. He is on Twitter at @TheLeeGreenwood.

About 2 hours after the tweet was posted, Trump deleted it and posted the same tweet, only replacing "@leegreenwood83" with "@TheLeeGreenwood." No further reference to the error was made.

Trump's original tweet was liked more than 12,000 times in the first hour it was up and was also retweeted thousands of times.
