Federal lawmakers agree more relief is needed to help Americans with food assistance.

The number of Americans on food stamps or snap benefits has grown by more than 20% during the pandemic, so the government increased those benefits.

On average, SNAP households got about $246 a month in 2020.

President Biden's proposed relief plan hopes to extend the snap benefits increase through September.
