NATIONAL (KTNV) — The U.S. Army is loosening its restrictions on hairstyles and other grooming rules.

It's in response to longstanding complaints, mostly from women soldiers, of different ethnicities.

The changes allow for braids, twists, cornrows and other styles.

Soldiers can now also dye their hair and have ear piercings.

Male soldiers will still be required to shave their face.
