LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Despite fewer drivers on the road in 2020, more people died behind the wheel.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just released traffic death data between January and September.

In that time, more than 28,000 Americans died in crashes.

During the same period in 2019, that number was just under 27,000.

Authorities blame the increase of risky driving behavior that some people developed when there were fewer cars on the road early in the pandemic.
