Michael Perez was arrested after Las Vegas police say he crashed a car into a fence at McCarran Airport and ran on to the tarmac.

It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday. According to a police report, Perez was allegedly driving fast near Mandalay Bay when his tires started blowing out. He eventually crashed into a fence on the west side of McCarran, and got out and ran on foot.

Las Vegas police were immediately notified, and part of the runway was shut down as they caught up with him.

Turns out, Perez was wanted on two different warrants, including possession of a stolen vehicle and for a probation violation.

McCarran Airport spokesman Chris Jones says protocol was followed in this case. He says no airport is foolproof since they're open to the public, but that once Perez breached the gate, surveillance and police were already in action and handled the situation, which is what they're supposed to do.

Jones says even though in this case, it didn't seem Perez had any malicious intent, the same protocol would apply to keep people safe if someone did.
