LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Source Dispensary is combining weed and wisdom with its monthly education courses. A free seminar was held Wednesday night focused on the subject of cooking with cannabis.

The dispensary is still where most people get their edibles, but the crowd in the classroom at the Henderson Multigenerational Center showed that a lot of people are curious about how to complement their store-bought goods with some home-cooked cannabis concoctions.

Misty Manual attended the class with her mother because she loves to cook.

"Brownies, smoothies, you know, anything to help with pain management,” she said.

Tony Robertson is the community outreach coordinator for The Source Dispensary.

"I'd say 30% to 40% of our customers have questions about edibles,“ Robertson said. "There's always people in a dispensary to ask those questions, but a lot of times it’s an environment that feels rushed."

The hour-long class gave people time to ask all the questions they want and discuss topics they were interested in learning more about.

“Like temperatures,” Manual said. “So, the thing I'm finding most is knowing your temperatures, your heating points and proper cookware. Stuff like that."

And for Robertson to answer them in a nonjudgmental environment.

"So, we are going to try and teach people how to calculate the number of milligrams of active THC that’s going into your stuff,” said Robertson. “So, you can make it and use ingredients that are right for you, and get the right dosages."

"It’s a cooking class. It's education,” Manual emphasized. “There's a lot of stigma still that we're fighting so, I think its beneficial to be here."

In this cooking class no one and nothing actually gets baked because of legal restrictions but they may go home with some recipes and ideas for the perfect pot, pot luck.
