Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio is rallying supporters in Nevada as he heads into the debate in Las Vegas.

The Florida senator held a rally Monday afternoon at the Renaissance hotel in Las Vegas. Campaign officials said about 300 people attended.

Rubio highlighted his family's humble beginnings and his years living in southern Nevada, and lamented policies he says are putting the American Dream out of reach.

"We need to have the strongest military in the world, so we can confront any enemy anywhere at any time that threatens our national security and instead we are in the midst of the most dramatic defense cuts in a generation," Rubio said.

He criticized an agreement with China to cut emissions, saying America would bear the cost of new environmental regulations if China drops the ball. He also touted work he did as a senator to weaken President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

The rally comes a day before a CNN Republican presidential debate at The Venetian Las Vegas hotel-casino.
