A man died after being hit by a dump truck in a vacant dirt lot on the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at 4615 S. Las Vegas Blvd., near Russell Road.

Police said a GMC dump truck was traveling through a vacant dirt lot as it passed through an opening surrounded by mesquite bush and dirt backfill mounds, an area frequented by homeless individuals. The dump truck drove over a man occupying an area near the mesquite bush.

The driver became aware that he drove over someone when he was notified by a coworker operating a second vehicle.

The operator of dump truck returned to the scene and provided a statement to police.

The man was pronounced deceased on scene. He did not have any identification on him and could not be identified on scene.
