UPDATE: Neighbors say man arrested in attempted sexual assault recently lived nearby

UPDATE: Friends say the suspect broke into the victim's home by pushing a patio table against a back wall. The perpetrator then jimmied open the sliding bathroom window.  
 
Phillip White allegedly tossed the woman on the bed and put a pillow over her face.  
 
The suspect only left after he was spooked by the victim's cell phone, according to friends.
 
13 Action News has learned that White recently lived in an apartment directly across from the victim's home. The people living inside said they asked White to leave in September.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- Police have arrested a man accused of attacking a woman in her bedroom.
 
On Nov. 7 around 3:50 a.m. a woman was asleep inside her apartment located in the 600 block of North 10th Street near Stewart Avenue when she heard a noise in her bathroom. 
 
As she went to investigate she was immediately attacked by an unknown male suspect.
 
Investigators say the male gained entry into the apartment through a bathroom window. The suspect attempted a violent sexual assault of the victim and robbed her of cash.
 
During the investigation by detectives and crime scene personnel, the suspect was identified as 53-year-old Phillip White, a registered sex offender. 
 
White was taken into custody on Nov. 12 around 7:41 p.m. after leading officers on a short foot pursuit. 
 
He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges of burglary, attempted sexual assault, battery to commit sexual assault and robbery.
 
Neighbors told 13 Action News the suspect is no stranger to their street. They say they've seen him in the area multiple times picking up cans on their street.
 
One neighbor says he may have known the victim's routine.  
 
"I'm devastated," she says. "We have a victim whose life has been destroyed, and for what?"
