A local private school just unveiled their new greenhouse, meant to not only teach students but help the surrounding community.

The new Williams Research Greenhouse was unveiled Wednesday at Faith Lutheran near Charleston and Hualapai.

Inside, students are already checking out what’s growing.

“They’re ready to go…and grow anything they want under the sun,” says Stephen Blank, teacher.

The greenhouse contains two side-by-side grow rooms, with varying temperatures along with water and lighting controls.

This creates different atmospheres inside to grow plants all year long that can’t grow in the desert outside.

“I think it’s incredible that we get to learn about all this, especially being in Vegas,” says Haley Lilla, student.

Students from 6th grade to 12th grade are learning to grow fresh produce as well.

The produce isn’t just for class; it’s being grown to help the community. Most of the food that is grown is heading to a local food bank.

“If we have so much produce available, there was no need for it to go to waste,” says one student.

Students say they hope the greenhouse will be a beacon of light for the community, and for students to grow beyond the school grounds.

“It’s really inspiring to me as a student that the teachers and the administration have our back on this journey.”
