Fidel Castro, one of the world's longest-serving communist leaders, is dead at the age of 90.
For the local Cuban community, it was a celebration.
"I have been waiting for this day my entire life," said Maria Caminero, president of the Cuban Heritage Foundation. "How would you like to live under a dictatorship for 57 years? It's that simple."
Caminero left Cuba when she was one year old and hasn't looked back since.
"This is definitely an end of an era," she said.
