Lightning strikes woman's SUV

A woman says she heard a loud boom Friday night as she drove down Highway 95 toward Searchlight, and her car shut off.

After making it to the shoulder, Brenna Schrader got out and realized her car had been struck by lightning.

The antenna was gone and the back window were shattered.

"All of a sudden there was a big explosion at the back of my car and my car was dead. I was able to move over to the side and all the sudden the flash flooding came through," Schrader said of the strike.

The water ended up washing over the entire highway leaving mud and debris behind.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers closed the highway for several hours to allow NDOT crews to clear the mess.

Schrader was forced to wait for some of that clean up to be completed before troopers were able to take her to meet her family in Searchlight.

Her car was eventually going to be towed away, with Schrader unsure how much repairs would cost.
