UPDATE ON JUNE 16: Las Vegas police have arrested a man for a shooting that they first believed may have been in self-defense.

The shooting happened shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday. A caller told police that he had shot a man that was trying to get into his apartment near Craig Road and Aviation Street.

When police officers arrived at the apartment, they discovered a man who had been shot in a hallway near the door to an apartment.

26-year-old Kevin Hoskins told police that the man knocked on the door and then tried to force his way into the resident's apartment. He also told police his young son was inside at the time.

However, detectives did not find any evidence that the deceased had tried to force entry and evidence at the scene indicated that two shots had been fired outside of the apartment.

Hoskins was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center on the charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
