Some Las Vegas pastors say they are tired of seeing kids going down the wrong path.

Last week, a 17-year-old boy was gunned down while playing basketball only a few blocks from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Martin Luther King and Lake Mead boulevards.

Willie Cherry is the pastor there and violent crime has become common in that area.

Now, he and 11 other church leaders are starting a new project called "Joshua Brigade."

They plan to go door-to-door in high-crime neighborhoods and talk with the families that live there and encourage kids to get involved in recreational activities.

Pastor Cherry says he is working closely with law enforcement to find out what kind of crime-tackling techniques work the best.
