A Las Vegas mom has a unique approach to fighting crime in her neighborhood near Lake Mead Boulevard and Mount Hood Street.
"I moved here when I was 17," said Joette Luiz, "..it was storybook neighborhoods."
Luiz said she has seen an uptick in crime in recent years. The mom of three showed 13 Action News abandoned homes, vacant lots, and other trouble spots in the area.
"They crawl through there to go over there and use their drugs," she said.
Luiz said she recently began soliciting tips about problematic areas on Facebook. She personally checks out each location before contacting various agencies, like the county and police, for a solution.
"If a child were to gain access in there, anything could happen," she said.
Luiz, who is driven by love for her community, said she realizes that changes will not happen overnight. She is hoping others will be inspired to get proactive.
